The storm around the Philippa Stroud shabang is ridiculous. I've just had the chance to banter it out over t'internet with some nutjob leftie, and I feel safe recounting the debate here. Unless someone can come up with more tangible proof of homophobia, I'm in the sceptic camp:

I don't know the woman at all, but having read the article they have an unnamed source making a fairly hefty accusation 4 days before a general election. I don't know whether it's true or not: But they should at least reveal where they get their information.

Btw, I heard today from 'X' that John Prescott used to go round hull intimidating the local Asian population!?!?!?! How bad is that!?

It is you that have linked this demon thing and the debate about homophobia. I've not looked extensively at the book, but until I am shown evidence that she has written or said that homophobia is caused by 'demons' then I'm going to assume she's not a terrible person.

I'm not her apologist: If she believes bull shit like that then I'd want her to disappear. but PROVE it.

She hasn't denied it: she has only stated that she is not "prejudiced aginst gay people", which is their standard line. I know these Evangelical Alliance people well, as I associated with them for years!

How can it be that the British public can emancipate a crackpot, ill prepared, inconsistent party like the Liberal Democrats on the basis of 90 terrible tedious minutes?

I hope and pray this is nought but a blip in support- a protest. This would certainly not be surprising. But nonetheless, the Conservative manifesto has not caught imagination in the way it should have done. The public wanted a big idea, and it got one. Now it has shrunk away from Conservatism and fallen in the lap of another toothless policy-lite façade.

I'm starting to think people just don't know what's good for them...

And if 'everyone's opinion matters', why does the young teen in the video have such ridiculous causes to champion? His opinions don't matter to me, and rather act as a commentary on the type of young person who becomes enraptured by the nannying of the Labour party.

The more I read the more I get the impression that one of two things have happened:

1. Hewitt and Hoon have a master plan. They have concealed it so well, though, that no one at all knows what it is. A labour ship without leaks? hmmmmmm....

2. This is one last stab in the dark by two sour ex ministers, over excited by Charles Clarke after too much tax subsidised drink.

Let me be clear, in my previous post when

I intimated the shit would hit the fan, in no way did i mean it like this!

So Hewitt and Hoon are sending mass texts calling for a secret ballot. The general feeling is that neither Jack Straw nor Darling are involved, and that we can thus expect nothing of this.

However, I reckon there's more to this than meets the eye: Mandy is rumoured to be deserting his newsnight duties, while Darling has been conspicuous by his lack of anything meaningful to say:

"As far as I'm concerned we should be concentrating on the business of government and getting though the recession". (Sky News)

Of course, the latter is not out of character for a man who seems to be despondently distant from internal labour politics, but the former is very unnerving for labour figures, as Mandy was out there within 30 minutes standing by his man last time. He's made Comments in favour of the PM, but he's by no means unambiguous, as Guido intimates.

As ever, it seems Mandy holds the balance of power: If he decides that Brown has had his day, we may find that some mean spirited ambivalence on Mandy's part will be enough to ruin this government.

Exactly what qualifies a man (and it is almost universally men) to be a sports reporter? Knowledge? Experience? Connections? Objectivity?

Well not in the case of Piers 'moron' Morgan, who has inauspiciously been filing arse(nal)-gravy copy to the Daily Mail for longer than David Pleat has been a total fucking idiot. Well, maybe not that long, but still a LONG time. I do not know the man. It is enough for me to know, though, that Jeremy Clarkson took to smacking him square in the jaw and Ian Hislop makes it his personal business to make his life as difficult as possible. This in my view, is enough reason to burn him in the back of a truck in Preston barracks then mock up pictures that prove it never happened (oh, how delicious the irony would be), let alone ban him from sports reporting.

However, Moron persists in stoking the flames of his pyre by writing nothing other than utter drivel. Now it may well be the point that he is controversial and is supposed to stir up commentaries such as these, but very little is as unforgivable as a sports journalist getting his facts wrong.

As things go, it's a pretty cushty journalistic direction: everything happens in a set time frame, controversies can be almost scripted before hand, and in the mass-media age, copy of a 'match' need be nothing less than a summation of quotes and a list of goal scorers. How, then, does Moron come to state that the Burnley player Graham Alexander has

roamed all parts of the midfield and always does a terrific job.

Alexander, of course, made his name as a right back at PNE, and only recently converted to DM. This may seem like pedantry, but this is supposed to be the basis for the Piers Morgan award or something, so you'd asume the man had vetted his posts properly. I do not claim to be a world expert on football (well, not often), but it really pisses me off when dick heads like Moron are paid thousands of pounds to write about things they don't actually know about. I do not doubt he has journalistic abilities like back stabbing snooping and aggression, I just wish he'd apply them from time to time. Every football pundit should know the league inside-out, and the ones leagues below. Too often sweeping judgements are made through hearsay and pasted into columns. This may be fine in the pub (and even then I get pissed off when people who have never seen a Spanish football match in their life tell me Casillas is the best 'keeper in the world), but in national journalism it really has no place. Maybe, just maybe, Moron and his ilk are killing off the dead tree press and giving reason for fans to read the works of the genuinely knowledgeable bloggers.

And don't get me started on Tony Cascarino...

So, this tedious evening I have taken it upon myself to start a blog. I accept, this is not the most conspicuous of starts, but I hope I haven't started as I mean to go on.

Here's a whiff of my blogging broth:

1. I shall blog on politics. I will be voraciously partisan, and terribly ill informed. thus, nothing on this blog is necessarily true. One day, I aspire to be the Sunny Hundal of the Right...

2. I'll probs blog on some gay stuff- perhaps in an unconventional manner. If I'm really short of words I may resort to slandering my current love interest. Homophobia will only be tolerated in the comments section if it is GENUINELY witty.

3. This blog will trough the slums of low culture and nibble Ferrero Rochers (washed down with a good Dom Perignon) with some classy stuff too. It will be sporadically snobbish as the author sees fit. I anticipate mostly the former.
